HC Dragunas Klaipeda produced a strong second-half performance to defeat Põlva Serviti 32:28 in the Baltic Handball League on Saturday, October 10. After trailing 15:16 at half-time, the Lithuanian side took control after the break and secured a four-goal victory.
The contest was closely fought from the opening minutes. Serviti started better and took an early 2:0 lead before Dragunas responded, moving in front 3:2. From there, neither team was able to establish clear control, with the score repeatedly level during the opening part of the match.
Serviti gradually gained the upper hand midway through the first half. The Estonian side moved from 10:10 to 14:11 and later held a three-goal advantage at 16:13. Dragunas responded before the interval, with Lukas Juskenas converting a seven-metre throw to reduce the deficit to 15:16 at half-time.
The momentum changed immediately after the break. Deividas Virbauskas equalised at 16:16 before Juskenas put Dragunas ahead 17:16. Serviti continued to answer and regained a 20:19 advantage, but the decisive phase of the match followed.
Dragunas scored three consecutive goals to turn 19:20 into a 22:20 lead and continued to build on that momentum. Mykolas Lapiniauskas then made it 24:21, forcing Serviti into a timeout.
The hosts maintained control through the middle of the second half. Their advantage increased to 28:24 and then to 29:25 before Ion Saharnean extended the lead to four goals again at 30:26 with just over seven minutes remaining.
Serviti reduced the gap to 30:28 late in the match, but Dragunas did not allow the visitors any closer. Juskenas scored at 58:11 to make it 31:28 and then completed the victory with the final goal of the match at 59:47, sealing a 32:28 win.
Juskenas led Dragunas with seven goals from 12 shots, including a perfect three from three from the seven-metre line. Lapiniauskas was particularly efficient with six goals from seven attempts, while Virbauskas, Paulius Čėsna and Karolis Stropus each added three goals.
For Põlva Serviti, Tõnis Kase was the leading scorer with nine goals from 13 attempts. Ülljo Pihus contributed five goals from six shots, Carl-Eric Uibo scored four from four, while Mathias Rebane and Jurgen Rooba finished with three goals each.
The victory also gave Dragunas a measure of revenge for the teams' previous Baltic Handball League meeting on April 12, when Serviti defeated the Lithuanian side 32:29.
