CASCADA – HC Garliava SM conquered season 2024/2025 of Women’s Baltic Sea Handball League. The Lithuanian teams swept the top two places as Vilnius Eglė took the silver medals.
Garliava headed to the final weekend on top of the standings with five wins out of five games. It secured the title on Saturday by beating Jēkabpils SS 41-29. The win meant that neither Vilnius Eglė nor HIFK could catch them even if the teams ended up levelled, as Garliava had beaten both of its main opponents earlier in the season.
Garliava ended its tournament by facing the host team and reigning champions GrIFK. GrIFK did not let go of the trophy easily by beating the new champions in a thrilling match 27-26. An entertaining match between to excellent teams was a fitting way to end another successful Women’s Baltic League Handball season.
Behind Garliava Vilnius Eglė and HIFK were battling for the silver medal. HIFK won Jēkabpils on Friday and Mistra on Saturday to set up a final clash for the silver medal against Eglė on Sunday. The Lithuanians won SK Latgols on Saturday meaning that Eglė and HIFK were even before their encounter. Eglė edged out the Finnish team 32-24 to grab the silver medals with HIFK taking home the bronze.
GrIFK had to settle for fourth place followed by the lone Estonian representative Mistra and the Latvian teams REIR / Dobele SS, SK Latgols and Jēkabpils SS.
Garliava’s Karolina Sparnauskaitė took home the MVP award and Vilnius Eglė’s Gabija Pilikauskaitė was the top scorer with 67 goals.
