Mistra delivered an emphatic performance in the Baltic Handball League on Friday afternoon, defeating Granitas-Karys 37:27 and confirming their superiority in this fixture. The home side led from the opening minutes and built a solid 17:11 advantage by half-time, before accelerating further after the break to secure a clear and deserved win.
This result follows last season’s 34:29 victory for Mistra over the same opponents, once again underlining their strong matchup against Granitas-Karys.
Mistra wasted no time asserting control. Goals from Aron Leppik, Vahur Oolup and Arno Vare helped the hosts race into a 6:1 lead within the first nine minutes. Aggressive defense and quick transitions repeatedly disrupted Granitas-Karys’ rhythm, forcing missed shots and turnovers in the early stages.
Despite attempts by Benediktas Labutis and Vilius Dirgėla to keep the visitors in touch, Mistra continued to extend their lead. Serhii Orlovskyi and Alvar Soikka were particularly effective, ensuring Mistra went into the break with a comfortable six-goal cushion at 17:11.
Granitas-Karys showed brief signs of resurgence early in the second half, but Mistra quickly shut the door. A decisive spell between the 33rd and 38th minutes saw the home side stretch the lead to 21:13, highlighted by goals from Patrick Padjus, Karl Roosna and Orlovskyi.
From there, Mistra’s depth became decisive. The hosts rotated effectively, maintained tempo, and punished defensive lapses. Even as Granitas-Karys continued to fight—scoring regularly through Labutis, Nojus Žilinskas and Marius Kairys—the gap never dropped to a threatening level.
Mistra closed the match strongly, scoring six of the final eight goals to seal the convincing 37:27 final score.
Mistra’s attack was balanced and efficient, with multiple players making significant contributions:
For Granitas-Karys, Benediktas Labutis was the standout performer with 7 goals, including 2 successful 7-meter throws, while Vilius Dirgėla added 5 goals and worked tirelessly on the wing.
