Põlva Serviti delivered a commanding home performance to defeat VHC Šviesa 34–29 in the Baltic Handball League on Sunday afternoon, avenging their September defeat and strengthening their position in the competition.
Serviti set the tone early, racing into a 4–2 lead within the opening seven minutes and steadily increasing the pressure through disciplined defense and sharp finishing. Led by a prolific attacking display from Jurgen Rooba, the home side built a decisive advantage before the break, heading into halftime with a commanding 20–12 lead.
The first half proved crucial, as Serviti capitalized on Šviesa’s missed opportunities and penalties. Rooba was clinical from both open play and the seven-meter line, while Tõnis Kase and Kermo Saksing provided consistent scoring support. By the 30th minute, Serviti had firmly seized control of the match.
Šviesa attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, narrowing the gap on several occasions through goals from Matas Aukstikalnis, Alan Bogdiun, and Šarūnas Ugianskis. However, any momentum was halted by defensive discipline from Serviti and timely goals at key moments. The turning point came midway through the second half when Šviesa’s Mykolas Lapiniauskas was disqualified following his third two-minute suspension, further complicating the visitors’ chase.
Serviti responded with maturity, maintaining their composure and extending the lead back to seven goals. Late strikes from Hendrik Varul, Mathias Rebane, and Eston Varusk ensured there was no late drama, as the home side closed out the match confidently.
