VHC Šviesa dominate Tallinna Mistra with convincing 33:20 victory

VHC Šviesa produced a commanding performance in the Baltic Handball League on Sunday, defeating Tallinna Mistra 33:20 after building an eight-goal advantage by half-time.

The Lithuanian side took control from the opening minutes and never allowed Mistra to seriously threaten their lead. Šviesa were already 6:2 ahead after six minutes and extended the advantage to 9:3 shortly afterwards, forcing Tallinna Mistra into an early timeout.

Colton Theodore Kuypers was particularly influential during Šviesa’s strong opening period, scoring several early goals as the hosts established the tempo of the match.

Mistra managed to stay within reach for part of the first half, but Šviesa continued to increase the gap. Goals from Matas Aukstikalnis, Domantas Ivanauskas, Šarūnas Ugianskis and Mykyta Litvinenko helped the home side move from 11:7 to 17:8.

Kuypers added another goal shortly before the interval, and Šviesa went into the dressing room with a comfortable 19:11 lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern.

Tallinna Mistra opened the scoring after the break through Alvar Soikka, but Šviesa quickly responded. Litvinenko converted another seven-metre throw before Adas Maželis increased the advantage to 21:12.

Mistra had opportunities to reduce the deficit, but two missed seven-metre attempts by Arno Vare during the second half made their comeback even more difficult.

Šviesa then effectively settled the contest with another strong spell midway through the half. Goals from Aukstikalnis and Ugianskis pushed the score to 25:15, before Kuypers and Maželis extended the advantage further to 27:16.

From there, Šviesa remained firmly in control.

Rapolas Valadka scored three times during the closing stages, while Joris Sabaliauskas and Vladyslav Korzhuk also contributed as the Lithuanian team completed an emphatic 33:20 victory.

Kuypers leads balanced Šviesa attack

Colton Theodore Kuypers was Šviesa’s leading scorer with eight goals from 13 attempts.

Mykyta Litvinenko added six goals and was perfect from the seven-metre line, converting all six of his penalty throws.

Matas Aukstikalnis scored four goals, while Rapolas Valadka and Vladyslav Korzhuk contributed three each. Šarūnas Ugianskis and Joris Sabaliauskas both finished with two goals.

For Tallinna Mistra, Alvar Soikka was the team’s leading scorer with five goals from five attempts, including one seven-metre goal.

Arno Vare and Aron Leppik added three goals each, while Patrick Padjus, Romet Nõgene and Kert Liinat scored twice.

The result also represents a turnaround from the teams’ previous Baltic Handball League meeting in April, when Tallinna Mistra edged Šviesa 30:29.
