Viljandi HC/LEONHARD WEISS defeat ZRHK TENAX Dobele 31–26 in Baltic Handball League

Viljandi HC/LEONHARD WEISS secured a 31–26 victory over ZRHK TENAX Dobele in the Baltic Handball League on Sunday, September 27, building their success on a commanding first-half performance before holding off a late push from the Latvian side.

The hosts led 18–10 at half-time and maintained control throughout the second half, with Aleksander Pertelson producing an outstanding individual performance with 11 goals from 15 attempts. Andrii Basarab added seven goals, while Karl Roosna contributed four, including two successful seven-metre throws.

The opening stages were evenly contested. TENAX briefly moved ahead 2–1 and 3–2, while Kristers Suharevs was particularly active for the visitors early in the match. Viljandi responded through Pertelson and Basarab and gradually began to establish control.

From 6–5, the home side started to open the gap. Pertelson repeatedly found the net as Viljandi moved through 8–6, 11–7 and then 14–7. TENAX called a timeout during that stretch, but the hosts continued to dictate the game and eventually carried an eight-goal advantage into the break at 18–10.

Viljandi continued their momentum immediately after half-time. Goals from Roosna, Sten Maasalu and Pertelson helped stretch the advantage further, and by the middle stages of the second half the hosts had established a double-digit cushion.

TENAX also suffered another setback when Mārcis Drēviņš was disqualified during the second half. Despite that, the Latvian side continued to fight and gradually reduced the deficit in the closing stages.

With Viljandi leading 30–22 inside the final six minutes, TENAX produced their strongest late spell. Kārlis Krūmiņš, Oskars Bisenieks, Emīls Vilsons and Artis Putra all scored as the visitors cut the gap, but Viljandi had already created enough separation to secure the 31–26 victory. Basarab scored the hosts’ final goal before TENAX closed the match with two further strikes.

For TENAX, Kristers Suharevs and Linards Usāns led the scoring with five goals each. Kārlis Krūmiņš and Rauls Erlends Serafimovičs added four apiece, while Artis Putra scored three.

The result also reversed the outcome of the teams’ previous Baltic Handball League meeting. On February 22, 2026, TENAX Dobele had defeated Viljandi HC/LEONHARD WEISS 36–25. This time, Viljandi responded with a strong home performance to take a five-goal victory.
