WBSHL Places 5-8 Round: Vilnius Eglė retains lead, RSU claims first win

The second matchday in the Women’s Baltic Sea Handball League Places 5-8 Round has concluded, with Vilnius Eglė retaining the leading position in the fight for fifth place. However, the Lithuanian side continues to be closely followed by Rigas Stradini University (RSU) ahead of the decisive final day of competition.

Vilnius Eglė had already taken the early lead in the standings after the first matchday thanks to a strong 38–31 win against SK Latgols. In the other opening-round match, RSU and Mistra shared the points following a dramatic 26:26 draw.

On Saturday, Vilnius Eglė continued its excellent form with a dominant 36:25 victory over Mistra after holding a 15:12 halftime advantage. Auguste Žilinskaitė led the team with eight goals, while Dovilė Navikaitė added seven as Vilnius Eglė pulled away late to secure an 11-goal victory.

Meanwhile, RSU claimed its first win of the round in thrilling fashion against SK Latgols. Alette Pettersen Lund converted the decisive seven-meter throw with just seconds remaining to seal a dramatic 28:27 victory after an intense back-and-forth contest.

Lund finished with 10 goals for RSU, while Kristīne Dzenīte contributed nine. SK Latgols was led by Linda Krole with nine goals and Patrīcija Cibuļska with six.

Following two matchdays, Vilnius Eglė leads the standings with four points, followed by RSU with three points. Mistra has one point, while SK Latgols remains without points heading into the final day of competition.

The decisive matches on Sunday will determine the final standings of the 2025/2026 Women’s Baltic Sea Handball League season and the final order in the battle for fifth place.
