WBSHL Places 5-8 Round: Vilnius Egle takes early lead, Mistra and RSU play out dramatic draw

The opening matchday of the Women’s Baltic Sea Handball League Places 5-8 Round delivered two entertaining clashes on Friday evening in Raasiku, Estonia, as the round-robin stage began with high-scoring action, dramatic momentum swings and several standout individual performances.
Vilnius Egle opened the weekend with an impressive offensive display to defeat SK Latgols 38:31, while Mistra and Rigas Stradini University (RSU) produced a thrilling finish in a dramatic 26:26 draw.
After the first matchday, Vilnius Egle landed on top of the standings with two points, while Mistra and RSU each claimed one point.
Mistra and RSU share points in dramatic draw (26:26)
Mistra controlled much of the match and led 15:13 at halftime before extending the advantage to 21:15 early in the second half. Maarja Treiman led the home side throughout the contest and finished as the game’s top scorer with 11 goals, including four successful seven-meter throws.
Rigas Stradini University (RSU) responded with a strong late comeback behind efficient performances from Eliza Bilkste and Alette Pettersen Lund, who both scored seven goals. The visitors erased a late deficit and Agnese Virubka converted the equalizer with less than a minute remaining to secure the draw.
Both teams had chances to win in the final minute, but neither side could find the decisive goal.

Vilnius Egle Powers Past SK Latgols (38:31)
After a competitive start, the Lithuanian side created separation midway through the first half and carried a 20:14 lead into the break. Vilnius Egle continued its offensive momentum after halftime, extending the lead to 27:15 before controlling the remainder of the match.
Silvija Mackonyte led the winners with eight goals, while Emily Petali, Dovile Navikaite and Beatrice Ruseckaite each added six goals in a balanced attacking performance.
SK Latgols continued to fight throughout the second half, with Linda Krole leading the team with seven goals.
